This years’ 148th season of the National Theatre in Belgrade closed with a traditional Opera Gala Concert held on the Main Stage on 30th June, under the batons of Dejan Savić, Larry Newland, Zorica Mitev Vojnović, Đorđe Stanković, Dijana Cvetković and Stefan Zekić.
In the hall filled to capacity, the audience enjoyed the excellent performances of overtures, suits, choruses, arias and duets from well-known operas mostly from the repertory of the National Theatre – The Power of Destiny, Tosca, Madam Butterfly, The Troubadour, The Magic Flute, Otello, Don Carlos, Eugene Onegin, The Marriage of Figaro, Carmen, The Flying Dutchman, Cavalleria rusticana, Rigoletto, Macbeth, Giuditta, Manon Lescaut, Sadko and The Girl of the West.
Song Granada by a Mexican composer Augustin Lara was also on the programme, while the aria La Antonelli from operetta El Duo De la Africana by a Spanish composer Manuel Fernandez Caballero, had its first performance in Serbia.
Together with the Orchestra and the Choir, numerous principal artists and soloists of the Opera of the National Theatre in Belgrade performed in the concert – Jadranka Jovanović, Janko Sinadinović, Miodrag D. Jovanović, Aleksandra Angelov, Dušan Plazinić, Ana Rupčić, Dejan Maksimović, Nataša Jović Trivić, Nenad Jakovljević, Vladimir Andrić, Dragoljub Bajić, Aleksandra Stamenković Garcia, Dragana Tomić Roksandić, Ljubica Vraneš, Ivanka Raković Krstonošić, Ljubodrag Begović, Nevena Pavlović, Dragutin Matić and Vuk Zekić.
Special guests in the concert’s programme were Italian artists Giampiero Sobrino, clarinet, and Olivera Mercurio, soprano.
The Drinking Song, the best-known song from Verdi’s masterpiece La traviata, was performed for encore.
Edit Makedonska has been a concertmaster.
Ana Grigorović stage directed the concert, while Dunja Kostić was in charge of set design.
The 149th season of the National Theatre in Belgrade, will open at the end of September.
