PREMIERE OF BRECHT’S DRAMA MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN
Drama by Bertolt Brecht, Mother Courage and Her Children, directed by Ana Tomović, with Dušanka Stojanović Glid in the title role, premiered on the Main Stage on Sunday 1st June.
In this production, which sends a strong anti-war message and reveals social mechanisms behind the war, roles were interpreted by Jelena Trkulja (Catherine), Milutin Milošević (EIlif), Mladen Sovilj (Swiss Cheese), Nikola Vujović (Recruiting Officer, Man with the Bandage on his Eye), Darko Tomović (Sergeant, Second Sergeant), Hadži Nenad Maričić (Young Soldier, Lieutenant), Slobodan Beštić (Cook), Gojko Baletić (General, Older Soldier), Nebojša Kundačina (Chaplain), Milenko Pavlov (Ordnance Officer, Peasant), Nada Šargin (Yvette Pottier), Dragan Nikolić (Soldier, Clerk, Regimental Secretary), Suzana Petričević (Peasant’s Wife), Tanasije Uzunović (Old Colonel), Pavle Jerinić (Soldier, Peasant’s Son)...
The drama portrays the ways social and political circumstances influence ordinary men and place them in various situations, but also the manner they can adjust and survive.
It also presents people who do not accept the situation and show deep humanistic persuasion that an ordinary man can change historical circumstances.
The play was performed for the first time in the Schauspielhaus Theatre in Zurich in 1941.
Olivera Milenković translated the play into Serbian language.

The production was realised within the Celebration Programme of the Centennial of the First World War and with support from the Cultural Centre Pančevo.
