“War and Peace”, based on the famous classic by Leo Nikolayevich Tolstoy, directed by Boris Liješević

The first reading rehearsal of the play "War and Peace", based on the famous classic by Leo Nikolayevich Tolstoy, dramatized by Fedor Šili and directed by Boris Liješević, was held on March 25 in the rehearsal hall.

The premiere is planned for the second half of May on the Main Stage, and the cast members are Hadži Nenad Maričić (Pierre Bezukhov), Miodrag Кrivokapić (Prince Nikolay Bolkonsky), Danilo Lončarević (Prince Andrey Bolkonsky), Zlatija Ocokoljić Ivanović (Princess Maria Bolkonskaya), Zorana Bećić Đorđević (Liza Bolkonskaya), Dušan Matejić (Count Ilya Rostov), Bojana Stefanović (Countess Natalya Rostova), Teodora Dragićević (Natasha Rostova), Nemanja Stamatović (Nikolay Rostov), Nina Nešković (Sonya Rostova), Slobodan Beštić (Prince Vassily Kuragin), Кalina Кovačević (Elena Kuragina), Petar Strugar (Anatole Kuragin), Vučić Perović (Boris Drubetskoy) i Nedim Nezirović (Napoleon Bonaparte). 

The creative team also includes Janja Valjarević (set designer), Bojana Nikitović (costume designer), Stefan Ćirić (composer), Mirko Knežević (choreographer), Bojana Stefanović (movement director) and Ljiljana Mrkić Popović (stage speech). 

Collaborators on the play are Miloš Golubović, Vuk Miletić (producers), Gala Dimović (organizer), Sanja Ugrinić Mimica (stage manager), Marija Nedeljkov (prompter), Ivan Orlenko, Jelena Šarković (assistant directors), Anja Marčetić (assistant set designer) and Jana Zaharijević, Miljana Ljubičić (assistant costume designer).

It was more than four decades ago that one of the most influential works of world literature was staged on the Main Stage of the National Theatre, and on Serbian stages in general,  for the first and only time so far. The premiere was held on June 24, 1980, directed by Petar Šarčević, who gave the lead roles to Bogdan Diklić (Pierre Bezukhov), Predrag Miki Manojlović (Prince Andrey Bolkonsky) and Dragana Varagić (Natasha Rostova).

The dramatization was made by the writer Mirko Miloradović, the set designer was Aleksandar Augustinčić, the costumes were designed by Ljiljana Dragović, while Dušan Trninić was in charge of the choreography.

The play was performed a total of 16 times before around 7,500 spectators.
