The Gala Concert Marked 140 Years of Friendship between Serbia and Japan

The concert spectacle celebrating 140 years of friendship between Serbia and Japan was held on June 10 on the Main Stage with the participation of almost 130 artists of the National Theatre in Belgrade, who performed the works of local composers, Stevan Hristić and Stanislav Binički, as well as the most famous arias from La Traviata, Aida, Nabucco, Faust, Carmen, Madama Butterfly, Cavalleria Rusticana…

The special guest of the concert was soprano Shoko Okada, originally from Japan, who participated with the soloists, the Choir and the Orchestra of the National Theatre and sang some of the most beautiful opera arias of all times.

The principal opera singers of the National Theatre in Belgrade Jadranka Jovanović, Ivan Tomašev, Janko Sinadinović, Dejan Maksimović, soloists Željka Zdjelar and Nevena Bridžen and a member of the "Borislav Popović" Opera Studio Nevena Đoković also performed in this magnificent musical event, under the baton of Dejan Savić.

The concertmaster was Vesna Janssens, and the Choir director was Đorđe Stanković.

The concert was the highlight of the celebration of 140th anniversary of the establishment of friendly relations between Japan and Serbia.

The performance was organised in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in Serbia and the Japanese Business Alliance in Serbia with the National Theatre in Belgrade and the City of Belgrade.

The concert was streamed live on a projector screen placed on the Republic Square.
