Acclaimed Serbian Tenor Zoran Todorović Appeared as a Guest Performer in "Tosca"

One of the ten leading world tenors of today, Zoran Todorović, appeared in the role of Cavaradossi in Giacomo Puccini's "Tosca” on the Main Stage on April 16 under the baton of Ana Zorana Brajović.

The title role was performed by the principal opera artist, Jasmina Trumbetaš Petrović, while the role of Baron Scarpia was played by Nikola Mijailović, a world-renowned baritone and a frequent guest on many significant opera stages around the world.

The roles were also played by Mihailo Šljivić, Vuk Matić, Darko Đorđević, Gavrilo Rabrenović, Sveto Kastratović and Lenka Maksimović.

The Choir and Orchestra of the National Theatre Opera in Belgrade took part in the production.

The set designer was Miraš Vuksanović, and the costumes were designed by Katarina Grčić Nikolić.

The premiere was held on April 2, 2014, directed by Dejan Prošev.
 
The plot of the opera, which depicts constant intertwining of political and love intrigues, is set in Rome in June 1800, at the time of Napoleon's invasion of Italy when the threat existed of him taking over the city from the then Kingdom of Naples.

The main characters of the story are the passionate and impulsive diva Floria Tosca, the romantic, freedom-loving painter Mario Cavaradossi who is in love with her and the power-loving and unscrupulous police chief, Baron Scarpia.

"Tosca" premiered on January 14, 1900 at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome.

The Serbian premiere was held on January 10, 1914 on the Main Stage of the National Theatre in Belgrade.
